The Story Behind the Infinite Truth Song "Year of the Fire Horse"

This week, "Year of the Fire Horse" passed 1,000 streams on Spotify, making it the first Spotify Infinite Truth track to reach that milestone.
It felt like the right time to share the story behind the song and the research that helped shape it.
The Research
“Year of the Fire Horse” came from researching the Lunar New Year of the Fire Horse — specifically the energy and history connected to past and future Fire Horse years: motion, independence, intensity, forward force and refusal to be contained.
What started as research quickly became personal. The more I studied the themes associated with the Fire Horse, the more I recognized myself in them: independence, momentum, self-direction and the drive to keep moving forward rather than settling into something that doesn’t fit.
The track was built around that feeling completely: hypnotic movement, controlled tension, physical momentum and the sense of something untamed moving forward under its own power.
Studying the Instruments
As the concept developed, I wanted to better understand some of the sounds and instruments connected to the musical traditions that inspired the project.
I spent time listening to traditional and classical Chinese music and created a Classical Chinese Music playlist on Spotify to better study the instruments, textures and movement that helped shape the direction of the song.

The Instruments in the Track
Several instruments became especially important during the process.
The guqin and sanxian inspired many of the plucked textures and rhythmic movement, while the erhu helped shape the passion, edge and controlled intensity running through the track.
I wanted to create an alternative track with traditional Chinese musical undertones. The guqin, sanxian and erhu helped shape the atmosphere, movement and emotional pull of the song while remaining part of my own alternative sound.
Building the Sound
The track carries that Fire Horse energy through motion, independence, intensity and forward force. While inspired by the research, it remains an alternative track at its core, focused on feeling, momentum and interpretation rather than literal recreation.
The result is hypnotic, controlled and forward-moving — built around tension, movement and the sense of something untamed moving under its own power.
