This song didn’t begin as another story from my previous Day of the Dead experiences. It began with what happened after I wrote the others. What I thought was the end of the album became the beginning of one more song. I realized that once I write a song and listen to it repeatedly for a while, the story begins to release from my life. The memory is still there, but the energy surrounding it is different. It no longer feels active or connected to me in the same way. I didn’t think any of these stories were weighing on me. They didn’t feel unfinished, and I wasn’t consciously trying to let them go. I only recognized the weight after it was gone and I felt the unexpected lightness left behind. That became the unexpected gift of writing Follow the Sound . The other songs tell the stories....

My Entry to Gabry Ponte's “We Don't Care” Remix Challenge

The Story Behind the Remix

I was taking a break from creating my current set of instrumental tracks and started looking around Suno, the site where I create my music. I found a section with contests and decided to enter Gabry Ponte's “We Don't Care” Remix Challenge on Suno. I wasn't a fan of the original song. The lyrics made the girl lame and pathetic, so I re-wrote the lyrics and gave it a sound to match.

The Lyrics

I started the rewrite by keeping parts of the original chorus while changing the verses and replacing the repetitive “ne ne ne” sections with new lyrics. I wanted something with more confidence, a little attitude, and a bit of seductive allure. In summary, a track I would actually enjoy listening to.

The Sound Behind the Remix

Listen to Gabry Ponte's original “We Don't Care” on Suno.

I ended up making three different versions: Alt-Pop/Indie, Dark Chillwave, and Alternative R&B. Each has its own musical character and a different vocal approach.

The Dark Chillwave version became my favorite.  It has a hypnotic groove and moving deep sub-bass. A dry kick, soft rim snare, and hi-hats create a steady rhythm beneath pulsing analog pads and subtle synth arpeggios. Light tape hiss, distant textures and subtle sidechain movement add atmosphere, with spacious lifts into fuller choruses.

The female vocals have a light, airy, breathy, relaxed, and alluring delivery, while the longer verses take on a bratty, rap-sung attitude.

The result is still very much dance music, but with a darker, more sensual, late-night club atmosphere. It's hypnotic, flirtatious, carefree and just a little reckless.
