A Gift to the Living from the Day of the Dead
“A New Day Has Dawned” is the eighth and final track on the album Follow the Sound.
This song didn’t begin as another story from my previous Day of the Dead experiences. It began with what happened after I wrote the others.
What I thought was the end of the album became the beginning of one more song. I realized that once I write a song and listen to it repeatedly for a while, the story begins to release from my life. The memory is still there, but the energy surrounding it is different. It no longer feels active or connected to me in the same way.
I didn’t think any of these stories were weighing on me. They didn’t feel unfinished, and I wasn’t consciously trying to let them go. I only recognized the weight after it was gone and I felt the unexpected lightness left behind.
That became the unexpected gift of writing Follow the Sound. The other songs tell the stories. “A New Day Has Dawned” tells what happened after I wrote them.

The Sound Behind the Song
“A New Day Has Dawned” keeps the old-world character of Follow the Sound, weaving it through psychedelic, electronic, experimental and industrial layers. The rhythm remains fluid and immersive, becoming wilder and more hypnotic in the chorus.
The sound stays grounded, physical and forward-moving. It closes the album through motion—the stories remain in the songs while their energy moves somewhere else.
