The Story After choosing the relationship, this song moves into something that had always been there between us — how naturally we moved together. He used to comment on it all the time. How in sync we were. Walking somewhere, moving through a crowd, doing anything physical or mental. Our energy was aligned. We could be across a room from each other and know what the other was thinking, what was happening without a word being said. He was fascinated by it and would deliberately push the limits of how in sync we were, just to see how far it went. I wasn't as surprised. "She Maps Her Skies" - The Story and Sound

The Story Behind the Song

She Maps Her Skies is the fourth song on the Year of the Scorpion album.

I had been in a serious relationship for a few years before I met this older man. The relationship had become stale and a drag, and I never wanted that in my life again. So at this point, I was anti-relationship. I have always been independent. Freedom isn't something I search for—it is simply how I live.

Then he entered my life and didn’t take any of that away.  However, he wanted more commitment than I had in mind. My view had always been simple: if something is working, why does it need a name?

The pull in this song isn’t about giving up freedom. It’s about realizing that the right person can expand it. Instead of making my world smaller, he made it bigger. The life I already loved suddenly had more possibilities because he was part of it.

She Maps Her Skies moves between open skies and gravity because both are true at the same time. I still wanted the space, but I also knew I had found something that offered even more than the freedom I already had.

The Sound of the Track

The sound of She Maps Her Skies blends indie influences, vaportrap textures and dreamy reverbs. The verses feel open and spacious before the chorus lifts into a wider atmosphere. The repeating hook mirrors the pull that keeps returning, becoming stronger each time until it can no longer be ignored.
