We Move Like Smoke | The Story and Sound Behind the Song

The Story After choosing the relationship, this song moves into something that had always been there between us — how naturally we moved together. He used to comment on it all the time. How in sync we were. Walking somewhere, moving through a crowd, doing anything physical or mental. Our energy was aligned. We could be across a room from each other and know what the other was thinking, what was happening without a word being said. He was fascinated by it and would deliberately push the limits of how in sync we were, just to see how far it went. I wasn't as surprised. I felt this connection instantly and wouldn't have dated him if it hadn't been this way. That connection became the center of We Move Like Smoke : “We move like smoke No word No sound” The Sound Listen...

“Ridin’ Out This Dime” — The Story and Sound Behind the Song

A psychedelic reggae-rock track about following my energy

The Story

I always follow my energy. I never need to force it or spend a lot of time deciding what to do. Even when I can’t see where the whole thing is going. I do what feels clear, the next piece appears and I keep moving.

“Ridin’ Out This Dime” started as a joke during a stretch when the signs were so eerily clear. I would feel the energy directing me toward something, do it, and immediately receive another confirmation.

I was following every direction, creating everything that arrived and watching the signs confirm it. So, naturally, I wanted to know when the large amount of money I keep asking for was going to show up. After another perfectly timed response, I immediately sat down and wrote the lyrics for “Ridin’ Out This Dime”.

The dime is playful. This is not a song about having nothing. My life is already amazing. The title comes from the contrast between everything I already have and the enormous financial expansion I’m summoning. It’s also about still living in a place I know is temporary and riding out the time between here and there.

The Cover

The cover takes that forming path into the next part of my life. It shows my daughter and me driving along the coast with silver dimes for wheels. The coast is a psychedelic painting with the road taking shape directly in front of us as we move. It represents the life we are moving toward.

The Sound

“Ridin’ Out This Dime” moves on a relaxed reggae groove with a psychedelic alternative edge. The rolling bass and deep-pocket rhythm keep the track moving easily, while echoes and hazy sounds give it a loose, surreal atmosphere.

The vocal is hypnotic through the verses, then opens into an addictive melodic chorus. The rhythm stays easy and steady while the song follows whatever comes next.

Another Song About My Energy

“Year of the Fire Horse”
is another song I wrote this year about following my energy.
