The Story

"Choose You" is the fifth song on the Year of the Scorpion album. It comes after the song "She Maps Her Skies", where the guy I was dating wants a more serious commitment as I am coming to terms with the possibility that this relationship might actually make my life better.

"Choose You" was written about realizing this relationship expanded my world and choosing him.

The line, "The sky feels bigger when it's us two", is the heart of the song. It describes the moment I realized that being together made my freedom feel smaller than the life we were creating together. It isn't about dependency or losing yourself in another person. It's about finding someone who makes an already full life feel even more alive.

The Sound

It's dramatic, with looped processed cello expressing the feelings beneath the choices through steady passages and powerful swells. Glitchy electronic beats and airy synths build on the emotion, adding energy and moments of drama throughout.
